Hello! Thank to try to help me.

1- So the homing shouldn't stop the printer from working normally?
2- I'am hitting the central button to go into the menu and the right one to select the submenu.
3- I used BOARD_MELZI (it compiles) and I've tried BOARD_MELZI_TRONXY (Doesn't compile).

Dust :
I do think I've tried this one and got an compilation error. But I might have used an old version of arduino. I'll tried again tonight.

Edit: I remember now. There no .ino file in this one. So I did try to copy the configuration file into de genuine 1.1.x marlin zip.

Hello,
I tried running the IDE as administrator, but nothing seemed to change. The verbose output reads:

Sketch uses 54284 bytes (21%) of program storage space. Maximum is 253952 bytes.
Global variables use 2513 bytes (30%) of dynamic memory, leaving 5679 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 8192 bytes.

Using Programmer : wiring

An error occurred while uploading the sketch

I don't understand this stuff about the USB serial drivers, so here is the link to the place where I bought the board:

The black chip in the middle reads:

Thanks for your help

I downloaded the driver, and it said I already have it pre installed. I then restarted the IDE and tried to upload the firmware, but it still reports an error.

I don't know if I'am dumb or they change the way the 5 button controller works since marlin 1.0. But I wasn't using the write button.

Feeling dumb but finaly happy.

Thanks!

Open up the device manager

plugin and unplug your controller a few times and watch what port appears and disappears to identify which com port your controller is on.

Check there are no errors in device manager (no yellow ! marks next to driver)

If a new com device is not appearing and disappearing remove the ramps from the mega and only plugin the mega. (you don't need the ramps to upload the firmware)

I don't think my computer recognizes the controller, because when I plug it in, I can't find it anywhere in the device manager. Also, the computer doesn't beep or anything when I plug in the board.

You seem like you have worked hard on this problem. I believe I have a similar issue. I have the MKG Gen 1.4 mainboard, Marlin 1.1.9 and a RepRapDiscount full graphic smart controller

Display detects card inserted/removed but always lists "No Card" and I am unable to load and print files from SD.

I ran the RRD-GLCD-test and it lists Initializing SD Card: FAILED. is there a way to test if its the RepRap or the SD card?

I'm using an 8GB card formatted to FAT (not FAT32) with a 2 GB partition. This card reads fine on my original Creality mainboard (but that has other issues hence the new MKS board).

I'm a CAD/designer guy and not so much a debug firmware/Ender hardware guy. I have a deadline to print some parts and would appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks

Carl

I have heard that the problem might be that my board doesn't have a bootloader, because it is a cheap Chinese clone. Does this sound accurate?

Yes definitely, google for CH340 Drivers to find the ones that you need. It might be a solution.

The usb-serial converter chip is what the computer sees as the usb device. It will see this regardless of if you have a bootloader or not.
If you don't have the device driver installed it will come up as a unknown device in device manager.

Did you remove the ramps from the mega and just plug the mega in?

Are you sure your USB cable is good, and not just a usb charge cable (charge cables only have power lines and no data lines)

Yes, I plugged in the Mega without the ramps, with no luck. I tried two different USB cables: the one the board came with, and one used for a regular printer, which I know works.

Well from what you tell us the usb-serial converter on your mega is dead.

Are you sure there’s nothing to do with the boot loader? Because I heard that cheap Chinese Arduinos like mine don’t come with a boot loader, to save storage space, so one must be installed. If the USB-serial converter is broken, is there some way to fix it? I find it unlikely that the board is broken because I just bought it and it has never been used.

"The usb-serial converter chip is what the computer sees as the usb device. It will see this regardless of if you have a bootloader or not. "

The computer needs to see the usb-serial converter first. If the computer sees the usb-serial converter and you still cannot upload then it could be a missing bootloader.

plug the board in to usb, take a good look at your device manager

If the drivers are not loaded it will show

If drivers are loaded you see

if neither shows up it is a dead board.

The computer seems to recognize the board in some way now, because now when I plug in the board, the computer makes a sound.

For me, my mega crashed my computer when I was using a ch340 driver. But then I found one from another website that did work. You can try another one if you can't get it to show up. Just make sure you first remove the old driver first as this can cause issues such as kernel panics.

In device manager, under ports the only things there are: "standard serial over Bluetooth link (COM3)" and "standard serial over Bluetooth link (COM4)". There isn't anything under other devices.

Ohmarinus, would you be able to provide a link to the website you used?
